When you are a dog parent, itself it is blessing but you are going to travel with him it will be a ‘cherry on the top’ experience. The best partner you can have for your solo trips, for him as well. There is a myth that you cannot go anywhere anytime if you own a dog, let’s break it and as we say anything is PAWS-IBLE with a dog by your side. You can actually go out for rides; drives even can fly and have fun with your fluffy buddy.

First few steps you should take before you move out of your house for the trip with your dog:

      • Visiting your vet is a must to do, take an assurance whether your dog is physically fit to travel or not.
      • Make sure your dog is vaccinated and up to date, otherwise, many international airports check the records.
      • Carry enough amount of his regular food and an adequate amount of water.
      • Do not forget to bring the necessary basic medicines he needs in case of any emergency.

TRAVELLING BY A CAR

      • Before getting into the car, try to make your dog play a lot and get him exhausted, so that he will sleep in the car and won’t bother you for a while.
      • Let your do pee and potty before getting in the car, so that he can sit comfortably for a longer period of time.
      • Get your dog used to of the car rides. Slowly increase your drive time, do not take him for a too long drive on the first day.
      • Get a hammock, it will help your seats clear and scratch free.
      • Put a seat belt on your dog, he will be safe at any circumstances; it will also restrict your dog to jump out of the car the car.
      • Keep a bowl to offer him water at regular at an interval of every 30 minutes; it is very necessary that your dog drinks a lot of water so that his body will be hydrated.
      • Do not get scared if your dog refuses to eat food, it is absolutely fine, and he might get motion sickness or nervousness. He may puke sometimes which is normal.
      • Take treats for your dog so that he can be easily controlled.
      • Lastly, no matter what take frequent breaks.

TRAVEL BY TRAIN

Travelling in a train with your dog is much more an easier process and also a better plan to go for a long distant journey. Everyone knows how to book a train ticket for themselves or for any package or parcel. But in this modern world pet culture is really trending and Indian Railway is offering the opportunity you wanted to avail for so long. Now let’s see how would you go through this procedure and what are the necessary you have to keep in your mind while travelling by train with your dog:

  • Make a vaccination card of your dog which is very imperative in case your dog bites somebody in the train, you can show this card to avoid hazards. Visit any vet, he will issue the vaccination card.
  • Go to the parcel office at least before 5-6 hours of your train departure.There will be a long queue
  • You have to book as luggage for your pet in the guard vans, if you are travelling in, 3rd AC, 2nd AC, and Sleeper class. You can take your dog along with you in 1st class compartment only.
  • The charges will be applicable according to the weight of the dog and the distance you are covering. Expenses are much more in 1st class birth than the guard compartments.
  • If your dog is in guard van; provide sufficient amount of food and water. As he will be apart from you for a long period of time.
  • Make sure you that you fasten your dog with a leash and harness, in case the crate gets open and your dog will run away.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

  • If you carry your dog in a guard van and you travel in a different compartment, you cannot reach your dog frequently and easily.
  • If you are carrying your dog with yourself in a 1st class cabin, and your co-passenger is not okay with your pet; in the middle of the journey your dog have to be shifted to the guard van.
  • It is beneficial to take your dog with you anywhere by this mode of transport but in guard van your dog might get ill for motion or can get depressed.
  • Your dog can get fleas and ticks from the crates of the guard van because they do not clean it up properly, they place is bit messy and dirty.
